ALOR GAJAH – The move by ex-prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who sets conditions for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to join the opposition pact is an attempt to emulate the Barisan Nasional (BN) sharing concept.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who is also UMNO Supreme Council Member, said the emulating of the BN sharing concept was apt as it had ensured that the country stayed stable and peaceful.
“The move is like honouring that only BN can assure that the nation continues to be stable and peaceful. If the PPBM chairman (Tun Dr Mahathir) himself too can talk in this manner, I feel he has given his recognition.
“As such, BN must continue to be the party which is given the mandate for the continuation, stability and peace of the nation. We do not want a fragile party,” he told reporters here last night.
Earlier, he opened the Alor Gajah UMNO Division’s cluster branch general meeting which was also attended by division chief Datuk Seri Abdul Ghafaar Atan.
Asyraf Wajdi said the consensus practised by Barisan Nasional should also be emulated as it was not cosmetic in nature but real and based on the constitution.
On March 14, PPBM, via Tun Dr Mahathir, had announced its desire to officially cooperate with with Pakatan Harapan, but imposed several conditions including changing the pact’s name. – BERNAMA
