The dashing and charismatic Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein appears to be the choice of the younger generation.
A new Merdeka Centre poll has shown that the 53-year-old Umno vice president and cousin of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was the Malaysian public’s pick for the role of premier.
The survey which was conducted by the Malaysian Insider reports that 19.8 per cent of the 1,008 respondents who voted in January chose Hishammuddin over the likes of Khairy Jamaluddin (8.6 per cent), Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (8.4 per cent), Rafizi Ramli (3.9 per cent), Mohamed Azmin Ali (3.7 per cent) and Nurul Izzah Anwar (1.7 per cent).
“Malaysians prefer Hishammuddin as he has the pedigree and the family name. He was in the limelight last year over the MH370 disappearance and was perceived to be handling it quite well. He became the face of Malaysia and got good ratings,†director of Merdeka Centre Ibrahim Suffian told the portal.
“He’s not a controversial figure in the media, there have been no open discussions on his problems as minister, and people have all but forgotten the keris-waving incident of 10 years ago,†he was quoted as saying.-MYNEWSHUB.CC
