SANDAKAN – A policeman was killed and another injured when a four-wheel drive (4WD) police patrol vehicle they were travelling in, skidded and crashed into a road divider at the 33km Jalan Sandakan-Telupid today.
Corporal Khairul Azmuddin Zulkiflie, 32, a father of two, who was driving the 4WD died on the spot in the 2.30am crash.
His colleague, Sub-Insp Mohd Awang Abdulah, 56, sustained head and body injuries and has been warded at the Beluran Hospital.
Sandakan police chief ACP Zabidi Mohd Zain said the two policemen were based at the Beluran police headquarters.
He said initial investigations revealed the crash occurred when the 4WD skidded and hit the road divider. He said the road was a straight stretch but visibility was poor as there was no street light.
Khairul Azmuddin, from Kuala Lumpur, is survived by widow, Maslina Ampong, a kindergarten teacher and two children. – BERNAMA
