KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysian Police will track down individuals or certain parties who have stirred anxiety and fear among the public through dissemination of false information or threat of terrorists.
Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said efforts to track down those involved was being carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, as well as other relevant agencies.
“For instance, recently several false bomb threats had been made via phone calls…we will not let them get away but will detect them,” he told Bernama adding that those found guilty of spreading false news would be punished.
Meanwhile, crime analyst Kamal Affandi Hashim advised members of the public against spreading unverified information particularly those involving security.
“They (the public) should always check the authenticity of any news they receive before making the news viral on social media, which can lead to all sorts of speculation.
“Besides that, it can bring negative impact to the society as it will cause panic among the public and even to those who read such information,” he said. – BERNAMA
