KUALA LUMPUR – Police will be calling up former Member of Parliament for Padang Serai N Gobalakrishnan to assist investigations over his claims about police officers through his Twitter account yesterday.
The probe comes in the wake of a tweet by Gobalakrishnan through his Twitter account ‘Ngobalakrishan’ at 5.29am yesterday which read:”Some Penang Indian police officers are strongly backing the 04 gang which deals with drugs.”
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar through his Twitter account today described the statement as a serious accusation against the police force and that they would conduct an investigation on the matter.
“This is a serious accusation against @PDRMsia Pg. We will investigate. @Ngobalakrishnan will be called in to help investigations,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Gobalakrishnan, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed that the Twitter account ‘Ngobalakrishnan’ belonged to him but refused to comment further on the matter.
“It is true that I had tweeted the statement and I may be called up,” he said.
The 04 gang is one of 46 triad groups which are active and dangerous in the country. It is involved in drug smuggling and responsible for several serious crimes using firearms and sharp weapons in Kedah, Penang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur (KL).
