SERDANG: Four men pretending to be plumbers so they will not rouse suspicion when allegedly breaking into vacant houses have been arrested by police here.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the suspects, in their 30s and 40s, were arrested in four separate locations in Seri Kembangan and Cheras on Monday.
“They were detained between 9am and 12.30pm. The first arrest was made after we spotted a man driving a stolen car in Taman Sungai Besi Indah.
“The man is wanted and was a former Simpang Renggam detainee. He has nine past criminal records. The car was reported stolen in Cheras,” he said at a press conference Thursday.
Further investigation led police to two accomplices who were arrested an hour and a half later at Pangsapuri Sri Aman in Seri Kembangan.
“We seized several stolen items and house-breaking paraphernalia in the unit,” he said, adding that the group was known as the ‘Gang Ah Wai’.
ACP Megat said the fourth suspect, a plumber, was picked up at Bandar Damai Perdana Cheras at 12.30pm with the help of the second suspect who assisted the police.
“We then went to Seri Kembangan and seized a stolen car at 1.45pm.
“After that, another stolen car was seized near the building of Employees Provident Fund in Petaling Jaya at 5.30pm. It was reported stolen in Puchong,” he said.
“With the arrests of the suspects, we managed to solve seven house-breaking cases and three vehicle thefts in the Serdang district,” he said.
The suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.
The group is believed to have been active for two years.
Police will be requesting for an extension of their remand, which expires Wednesday.
