KUALA LUMPUR – A group of media photographers, aided by the police nabbed three youths linked to robbing a news portal photographer of a camera, related equipment, mobile phone and laptop in Serdang, Selangor last Sunday.
One of the suspects had robbed Malaysia Gazette photographer, Muhammad Affan Fauzi, 21, while the victim was returning to his Ampang home from Sepang following an assignment.
According to another Malaysia Gazette photographer, he and nine other photographer friends promised to meet up with one of the suspects after stumbling on the stolen items being advertised on an online shopping portal last night.
“We pretended that we wanted to buy the items and arranged to meet the suspect near a petrol station in Bukit Dukung, Kajang about 4pm today, after alerting the police who subsequently, arrested the three suspects, including the youth who robbed Muhammad Affan,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He said the items advertised on the online shopping portal site included equipment such as camera, lenses, camera flash and camera bag belonging to the photographer.
In the 2.30pm hold-up at Lebuh Silikon, Serdang, Muhammad Affan was on his way back from Sepang to Ampang on a motorcycle when the machine ran out of fuel.
A youth offered to assist the photographer to take the motorcycle to the nearest petrol station when suddenly, he brandished a machete at Muhammad Affan and fled with the photographer’s Nikon D800 SLR camera, a telephoto lens, camera lens and mobile phone, laptop, bag and his wallet.
In confirming the arrests, Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the suspects were aged between 19 and 37. – BERNAMA
