GEORGE TOWN – Police detained two members of a drug distribution syndicate and seized syabu weighing 90 kg and valued at RM6.3 million in two raids in Penang on Friday and Saturday.
Bukit Aman Narcotic CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said a police team raided a house in Kota Permai in Bukit Mertajam near here at 4 pm on Friday and detained a man after a month of intelligence and surveillance.
“Police also seized 86 chunks of syabu weighing 90 kg, worth RM6.3 million, believed to have been smuggled in. The drug was meant to be processed and repacked before being distributed to syndicate members for sale nationwide,” he told a media conference here today.
He said another man was detained in a car in Pulau Tikus here at 3 am on Saturday after investigation revealed he was a member of the syndicate, adding both were drug addicts while one had a crime record.
Following the detention of the suspects, aged 31 and 41, who were remanded for six days, police also seized RM3,150 in cash, a Honda Accord and a Honda City while RM500,000 in several accounts they owned were also frozen, he added. – BERNAMA
