SHAH ALAM – The police detained four men in Klang near here to facilitate investigations into a group which posed as policemen to rob foreigners in the district.
They were picked up in Jalan Bendahara on Sept 15.
Shah Alam police chief, ACP Shafien Mamat said the suspects, aged 28 to 38 years, were nabbed about 3pm after robbing two foreign men at a bus stop on the Federal Highway.
He said the arrests were made following a tip-off from the public who saw the incident about four hours earlier.
“One of the suspects was said to have introduced himself as a policeman before luring a foreigner into a Perodua Viva.
“After robbing the first victim, the suspects returned to the same bus stop two hours later and robbed the other foreigner.
“Based on information obtained, the police found the car which belonged to a car rental company, and was equipped with global positioning system (GPS),” Shafien told a press conference here today.
He said with the help of the company, the police located the car and made the arrests, adding that a mobile phone and cash, believed to be part of the loot were also seized.
“With the arrests, we believe five robbery cases involving foreigners have been solved,” he said. – BERNAMA
