JOHOR BHARU – The police have detained 11 people to facilitate investigations into a shooting incident opposite the Nusajaya police headquarters, two days ago.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the suspects were picked up within Nusajaya by a special team led by state criminal investigation department chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan.
They are aged between 35 and 56.
Speaking to reporters at the state police contingent headquarters here today, Mohd Mokhtar said initial investigations revealed that five shots were fired in the direction of a man.
The shots missed the intended victim and instead, struck the Nusajaya police headquarters.
In the incident about 1.30pm, a man opened fire from a car at the other man who was travelling in another car.
Earlier, the victim, in his 30s had run away when the gunman trained a pistol at him at a petrol station in Jalan Sungai Danga here.
Subsequently, the victim ran towards the Nusajaya police headquarters in Taman Nusa Bestari here before the shots were fired in his direction.
In a separate case, the police crippled a drug distribution ring in Muar, following the arrest of three men and seizure of five kilogrammes of marijuana worth RM50,000, two days ago.
In the 11.45pm raid in Parit Yusuf, the police also seized a car and RM3,950, believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs.
The suspects, aged between 40 and 50, were remanded until Sunday. – BERNAMA
