KUANTAN – Police have identified 30 blackspots in Pahang, with the highest number of accidents recorded along the East Coast Expressway.
State police chief Datuk Seri Sharifuddin Abd Ghani said ‘Ops Selamat 8’, which is being carried out from Feb 1 till Feb 16 in conjunction with Chinese New Year would concentrate on the 30 locations to reduce accident cases.
“The objective of the operation is to create awareness and instill safety values in road users,” he told reporters at the Pahang police contingent headquarters here today.
Twenty-three officers and 254 personnel from the Royal Malaysian Police are involved in the integrated operation with other enforcement agencies such as Road Safety Council, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Department.
Sharifuddin said accident cases in Ops Selamat 6 (2015) increased to 787 with 15 deaths, from 770 with 13 deaths in Ops Selamat 4 (2014).
“The number of summonses issued during Ops Selamat 6 was 18,373, compared to 13,408 in Ops Selamat 4,” he said. – BERNAMA
