KUALA LUMPUR – Police arrested 1Malaysia NGOs Coalition chairman Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos (pic) at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) compound at 8pm Friday night, believed to be over his alleged threats against former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.
Jamal, who is also the Sungai Besar UMNO Division chief, was taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on 9.24pm.
Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah confirmed the arrest and said Jamal was detained under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally hurling insults with the intention to provoke a breach of the peace and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
Meanwhile, 1Malaysia NGOs Coalition’s lawyer Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin said apart from Jamal, three other individuals were also being called up to assist the investigation.
?As of tonight, Jamal was detained to get his statement… and if necessary, the remand order process will be carried out tomorrow morning,? he said.
Jamal is reported to have taken umbrage over a tweet by Zaid on Tuesday which allegedly was disrespectful of Sultan Sarafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor.
