KANGAR – The police have crippled a gang of thieves linked to about 50 motorcycle thefts since 2014, following the arrest of four suspects.
The suspects, believed to be members of ‘Gang Chemumar’ are aged between 15 and 22. They were picked up between Aug 10 and 17.
Kangar police chief Wari Kiew said today, two of the suspects had previous records related to drugs and motorcycle-thefts.
He said investigations revealed the suspects had been active in Kangar, Arau and Kulim, stealing mostly Yamaha RXZ and Honda EX5 before cannibalising the machines and selling the parts to buyers from Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak.
He said the motorcycle frames were dumped in rivers, adding that nine such frames were found in Tambun Tulang here.
Wari said the suspects targetted motorcyle parking areas such as in shopping malls, hospitals, surau and mosques and conducted most of their activities during dawn. – BERNAMA
