KUALA LUMPUR – The police are in the midst of completing the investigation paper on lawyer Eric Paulsen who alleged the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) was promoting extremist teachings.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said Paulsen was released on police bail, following a two-day remand.
Paulsen, via a twitter message last Friday, had reportedly said: “Jakim is promoting extremism every Friday. The government should look into it if it was serious about eradicating extremism in Malaysia.”
The statement was however, deleted after it was heavily criticised by various parties.
Four days later, Paulsen was arrested at a public parking area in Brickfields about 9pm.
The case, investigated under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act, is handled by the Bukit Aman CID, with the cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. – BERNAMA
