KUALA LUMPUR – Police arrested two men on suspicion of being involved in gang fights involving about 40 individuals in Jalan 4, Pandan Mewah, near the Ampang Hospital here yesterday (Monday).
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said the two men, aged 28 and 33, were arrested by policemen who were on crime prevention patrol at the site at about 3.15am.
“The police ordered the group to disperse but it was ignored until one of the men involved in the incident was arrested while another man was also detained as he was trying to flee while carrying a 54cm machete,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Hamzah said the two men, one from Rembau, Negeri Sembilan and the other from Kuala Lumpur, were detained and taken to the Pandan Indah police station for further action.
He said the motive for the fight remained under investigation and police were examining video clips as well as from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras near the scene to nab those involved in the fight.
He said the men were remanded for three days from today to facilitate investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
