KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested the man (Lawyers for Liberty executive director Eric Paulsen) who was reported to have claimed that the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) was promoting extremist ideology, here last night.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the man was picked up in Brickfields.
“@PDRMsia has just arrested the man in Brickfields,” he tweeted.
On Jan 9, the man was reported to have tweeted:
“Jakim is promoting extremism every Friday. Government needs to address that if serious about extremism in Malaysia.”
However, the tweet was said to have been deleted after being criticised by numerous quarters.
On Jan 10, Khalid confirmed police would investigate the man under the Sedition Act 1948. – Bernama
