KUALA BERANG – Terengganu Police today advised against raising speculation over the earthquake in the Kenyir Lake area and causing panic among the local people.

State Police chief Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman said the police were monitoring the situation in the nearby populated areas.

A check by Bernama found the people of Kampung Jenagor, Kampung Pasir Dula and Kuala Berang town going about their activities as usual.

A 2.7-magnitude earthquake last night in the Kenyir Lake area caused tremors that were felt in Kuala Berang.

The epicentre of the quake was 16km southwest of Kuala Berang.

Meanwhile, Kuala Berang Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Zamri Omar said inspections, including in the Kenyir Dam area, showed no signs of adverse impact from the tremors.

“We carried out inspections in several areas and we were also informed that there was no adverse impact in the dam area,” he said. – BERNAMA
