KUALA LUMPUR – The ‘PM’s Dialogue with NGOs’ scheduled for this morning at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here, was cancelled after trouble broke out outside the hall.
The cancellation was announced by the programme’s emcee at 10.30am following commotion and a fight between individuals, with police arresting a man in the incident.
An estimated crowd of 1,500 people from various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had gathered at the venue since 9am for the dialogue titled, “Nothing to Hide”, with the prime minister.
Although the dialogue was eventually cancelled, the day’s programme proceeded without the prime minister’s presence, starting with invited speaker, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, giving his speech.
However, his speech stopped half-away after the organisers announced the cancellation of the programme.
Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, through his Twitter page, ordered for the dialogue programme to be cancelled in the interest of public order and harmony. – BERNAMA
