Datuk Seri Najib Razak pledged today that action would be taken if the investigations on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) uncover any illegal activity.
The prime minister also said the state investment firm would be able to pay off its debts if it was allowed to continue implementing its rationalisation plan unhindered.
“Rather than conduct a trial by media, we must wait for the outcome of these investigations,†Najib said in his welcome address at the Global Transformation Forum here today.
“If there’s wrongdoing, I can assure you appropriate action will be taken against those responsible,†the prime minister added.
Bank Negara Malaysia recently recommended prosecution of 1MDB in its investigation of the state investment firm for breaching exchange laws, but the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said earlier this month that 1MDB officials did not commit any wrongdoing.
The AGC also said that the police have yet to complete their investigation on 1MDB, while a new chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was appointed Monday after the parliamentary committee’s probe on the state investment firm was temporarily suspended since last July due to the appointment of several members to government.-The Malay Mail Online
