PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today received contributions amounting to RM10 million for the Tabung Ihsan Pemulihan Masjid Banjir Kelantan to restore mosques and surau damaged by floods in the East Coast state last December.
The ceremony was held at the Perdana Putra building, here, with several cabinet ministers including Minister in the Prime Ministerâ€™s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed also present.
The cheques for the contributions were handed over to the prime minister by representatives of the donors which included Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, Bank Rakyat, Felcra Bhd and Special Committee to Promote Understanding and Harmony Among Religious Adherents under the National Unity and Integration Department.
Chairman of the fund, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the setting up of the fund on Jan 20 this year was initiated by the Kelantan Umno religious bureau and being monitored by the Committee of Trustees to ensure transparent distribution of the aid.
He said the recent floods in Kelantan, regarded as the worst ever, had badly damaged 83 mosques and 242 surau.
