SUNGAI PETANI – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has been described as the champion of the fishermen’s cause as various initiatives have been implemented by the government under his leadership to ensure the welfare of the fishing community continued to be looked after including providing more comfortable housing facilities for them.
This was the opinion of several fishermen in Tanjung Dawai, near here, who received new houses following the implementation of the ‘Nelayan Muafakat Kedah’ project which was officiated by the prime minister today.
One of the recipients, Yusri Zainol, 43, said the initiative of the present government under the prime minister’s leadership had given him and his family the opportunity to live in a new house compared to the rented home previously which was smaller with the toilet located outside the house.
“Of course I feel proud because previously I was living in a smaller, rented home. Now, even the children are comfortable. In the past, they did not have a room, but now they have rooms, everyone is comfortable,”he told reporters after the opening ceremony.
A total of RM48 million was allocated by the government for the project located in Tanjung Dawai, near here involving 300 housing units worth RM59,000 per unit and the fishermen only had to pay RM150 per month for a period of 30 years. -BERNAMA
