KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed his disagreement over the arrest of a man suspected of insulting the prime minister.
In a Twitter post today, Dr Mahathir said he had informed the police of this and that the Pakatan Harapan government would review the law used in the case.
According to the police, the man was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“I disagree with action taken against people who criticised me. I have informed this to the police involved.
“This law will be reviewed once the Parliament convenes soon,” he wrote.
The Langkawi IPD Facebook page on Thursday posted a statement saying that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday after several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) filed a police report against him the day before.
They had voiced dissatisfaction over his “excessively insulting statements on Facebook against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Islam.” The NGOs were not identified.- New Straits Times
