PEKAN – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today called on three ailing Umno veterans in his Pekan parliamentary constituency.
They are Datuk Seri Ghazali Kasim, 83, and Datin Zamzam Abdul Samah, 81, of Kampung Parit Tengah and Abdul Rahman Ahmad, 76, of Peramu Jaya 3.
Ghazali is a former permanent chairman of the Pekan Umno Division, and has been suffering from Parkinson’s disease over the past 10 years.
Zamzam is a former permanent chairman of the Pekan Wanita Umno Division while Abdul Rahman is a former member of the Information Committee of the Pekan Umno Division.
Najib, accompanied by several people, arrived at the home of Ghazali at 9.40 am.
Ghazali, who is related to Najib, said he was touched by the visit of the prime minister.
“I am moved because he is the nation’s No. 1 leader and yet he has come to enquire about my health,” he said.
Ghazali had served as a teacher for 25 years and is married to Datin Seri Razmah Zainuddin, 79.
Najib then went on to Zamzam’s house, located just 20 metres away.
Zamzam said she was happy that Najib kept in touch with Umno veterans like herself.
The prime minister then went over to the house of Abdul Rahman in Peramu Jaya 3.
“He (Najib) is a leader who likes to help people without question. I did not think that he will call on me. Thank you very much,” said Abdul Rahman, who is a former headman of Kampung Peramu Jaya.
He said Najib enquired about his health and family and they talked about old times.
Najib also attended the wedding of the daughter of Pekan Umno Division Religious Bureau chairman Datuk Mohamad Ariffin Daud.
Norhana, 29, was wedded to Mohd Faizal Abdul Talib, also 29. Both of them, engineers at an automotive company here, had become acquainted in 2008. – BERNAMA
