TUMPAT – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today gave the assurance that the government would continue to take care of the Siamese minority in Kelantan as the community had supported the Barisan Nasional (BN) all along.
He said the support of the community for the BN in the Pengkalan Kubor state by-election on Sept 25 reflected its loyalty to the BN government.
“One of the factors that contributed to the BN victory in Pengkalan Kubor is the overwhelming support of the Siamese community. We will continue to assist the Siamese community here and elsewhere in Kelantan,” he said when addressing about 2,000 people of the community here.
Najib said that in appreciation of the community’s support, the BN government approved a RM1-million allocation for the construction of a community hall for the Siamese in Pengkalan Kubor.
He also said that in appreciation of the support and loyalty of the Siamese in Kelantan, he would visit the state again to host them at a special reception.
Kelantan has about 25,000 Siamese, of whom 1,728 are voters in the Pengkalan Kubor state constituency.
Ninety per sent of these voters backed the BN in the by-election.
The BN retained the seat when its candidate, Mat Razi Mat Ail, polled a 2,635-vote majority to beat Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim of PAS and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary. – BERNAMA
