PKR vice-president and secretary-general Rafizi Ramli was arrested at his Member of Parliament Service Centre in Kampung Pandan this afternoon, on suspicion of sedition in relation to a statement he released on tomorrow’s #KitaLawan rally.
Fahmi Fadzil, PKR Youth deputy chief and communications director, said Rafizi would be taken to the Dang Wangi police district headquarters for investigations.
Rafizi was also scheduled to speak at a gathering in Dataran Merdeka tonight, alongside other Opposition politicians and activists.
In his statement yesterday, Rafizi called for PKR leaders to mobilise their division members and supporters to participate in tomorrow’s #KitaLawan rally, due to be held at 4pm in front of the Sogo shopping mall on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
“PKR hopes that all Malaysians who love Malaysia would turn up to speak out for our rights and oppose against the federal government’s wicked ways.
“We also hope the authorities do not try to infringe our rights to assemble peacefully,” he said, as quoted by The Malaysian Insider.
The #KitaLawan rally tomorrow will be to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak, the release of jailed Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, and to protest against the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, scheduled to come into effect on April 1.
After the last #KitaLawan rally on March 7, 11 people were arrested, despite the protest itself being observed by the police with no untoward incidents.
