KUALA LUMPUR – PKNS FC confirmed their participation in the Super League for the 2017 season tonight after finishing in the top two spots of the Premier League along with Melaka United.
In their final league game of the season at the Selayang Stadium here, coach E. Elavarasan’s team collected all three points after beating Kuala Lumpur 2-0 thanks to goals from import player Juan Manuel Cobelli in the 10th and 66th minutes.
PKNS finished second with 48 points, while Melaka United had earlier clinched the championship with 49 points with a game in hand.
JDT II remained in third position with 43 points, adding just one point after a 0-0 draw with DRB Hicom FC at Stadium Proton Tanjung Malim in Perak.
Negeri Sembilan finished the season in fourth place after beating home team Kuantan 2-0, with Goran Jerkovic scoring in the 19th minute and Sean Eugene Selvaraj adding the second in the 63rd minute at Stadium Darul Makmur, Kuantan.
UiTM FC, who were ranked second last in the league before this, managed to escape relegation by finishing in 10th place with 17 points after a 2-1 win over Sabah at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.
John Landa scored in the 52nd minute for UiTM FC and Raslam Khan added the winner in the 76th minute, while Sabah’s only goal was scored by Igor Cerina in the 24th minute.
The two teams which ended up at the bottom of the table this season were the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and Sime Darby, and they were relegated to the FAM Cup next season, with each collecting 15 and 11 points respectively.
ATM lost 2-3 to Perlis at the Temerloh Municipal Council Stadium and had to settle for 11th place. Perlis’ goals were produced by Charles Chad Souza in the 60th and 62nd minutes, followed by another from Mohamadou Sumareh in the 73rd minute.
ATM’s goals were scored by Khasan Abdukarimov and Venice Elphy Ak Danny Kaya in the 68th and 78th minutes respectively.
Sime Darby will face Melaka United in their final match at Stadium Hang Jebat, Melaka, tommorrow. – BERNAMA
