KUALA TERENGGANU: An RM2mil defamation suit filed by PKR’s Mohd Shamsul Mat Amin against PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has been dismissed by the High Court here.
Judge Datuk Mohd Yazid Mustafa also ordered Mohd Shamsul to pay RM10,000 in costs to Abdul Hadi.
In dismissing the suit, Mohd Yazid said the plaintiff had failed to prove that the words uttered by Abdul Hadi at a ceramah were defamatory.
Mohd Shamsul contested for PKR in Bukit Besi during the 13th general election.
The businessman alleged that Hadi had defamed him during a ceramah at Kampung Tebakang, Marang, on April 22, 2013 when the latter claimed that one of PKR’s election candidates was a pil kuda (methamphetamine pills) dealer.
PAS eventually fielded its candidate against Mohd Shamsul at Bukit Besi.
This was opposed to Pakatan Rakyat’s mutual agreement that its component parties should not contest against each other.
Barisan Nasional won the three-way contest on May 5 last year.MYNEWSHUB
