PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak viewed the organising of the Putrajaya International Islamic Arts and Culture Festival (PIIACUF) 2014 as the best platform to showcase the peace and beauty of Islam to the world.
He said the Islamic arts and culture should be highlighted so that Islam could be perceived and believed as a religion that would benefit the people from all walks of life.
“However, certain quarters misinterpreted Islam to the extent of causing the existence of Islamophobia and causing the public to see Islam as a violent and cruel religion,” he said when opening the PIIACUF 2014 here today.
He also thanked the participants from foreign Islamic countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Palestine and Egypt for their support in the festival.
The prime minister also spent time visiting the exhibition booths, which among others, displayed Islamic clothing, halal health products and Islamic arts.
Themed ‘Wonders of Islamic World’, the four-day festival, which began yesterday, is expected to lure 250,000 visitors with the various activities lined up, including the International Islamic Forum, Malaysian Islamic Book Expo, Islamic concert and Muslimah fashion segments. – BERNAMA
