KANGAR – The Perlis government will not be reviewing its budget for this year but instead will be focusing on expenditure for flood mitigation, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.
Speaking after the monthly assembly for state and federal civil servants in Perlis at Dewan Warisan here today, he said flood mitigation measures were important because of huge losses suffered due to floods.
“Hence, our focus is on the Western Diversion Project valued at RM500 million which is currently underway and find new sources of revenue to improve the drainage system throughout the state,” he stressed.
The Western Diversion Project entails the diversion of water from the Timah Tasoh Dam in Beseri during the rainy period directly into the sea so as to prevent floods in residential and agriculture areas.
According to the Menteri Besar, the project was scheduled to be completed by the end of this year or early next year. – BERNAMA
