KANGAR – Perlis Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) will carry out a study on the need to establish fire post as a measure to speed up the department’s response time in the case of emergency.
Its Deputy Director Mohd Khairull Rizall Yahya said there were five fire stations in Kangar, Arau, Padang Besar, Kuala Perlis and Simpang Empat in the state.
“The situation in the state is also not too busy with manageable volume of traffic that we can arrive at the scene within 10 minutes after receiving a call.
“However, we will look into areas that are at risk of fire incidents (to establish the fire post) so that our machinery can reach the scene faster to provide assistance,” he told reporters after attending the department’s monthly assembly at the Dewan Warisan here today.
He said the department also received excellent cooperation from the voluntary firefighters in carrying out rescue operations.
In the meantime, as of October this year, the Perlis JPBM received a total of 305 emergency calls with the majority of them involving cases such as accidental locked-in children, victims of drowning and road accidents, he said. – BERNAMA
