Perlis Government Urged To Revive Grape Plantation

KANGAR – The Perlis Government has been urged to revive the grape plantation in Sungai Batu Pahat here or replace it with other plants.

Perlis Malay Association (Pemanis) president, Datuk Mohd Zain Hamzah said the plantation which was located near the Perlis Snake and Reptile Park and the Perlis Golf Club would give a negative perception of the state government’s administration.

He said the issue was raised at the recent Pemanis annual general meeting and would be brought to the attention of the state government.

Speaking to Bernama here today, Mohd Zain said Pemanis was sad that the grape plantation had been neglected as more than 10 years ago, the tourism ministry allocated a large sum of money to develop the plantation as a tourist attraction.

“The state government must decide quickly on this (grape plantation), rather than allow the plantation to become an eyesore,” he said, adding that a community programme could be held during the weekends to clean it up.

He said the plantation should be retained as Perlis did not have many interesting tourist attractions. – BERNAMA
