JAKARTA – Perak is targetting 150,000 tourists from Indonesia to visit the state this year following the three-day Visit Perak Year 2017 Tourism Mission in Medan and here since last Monday.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the mission was conducted to promote tourism products in Perak, such as food, theme parks, like the Animation Park Studios (MAPS) and international level sports and seminar.
He said the Indonesian tourism industry players were told that Perak was among destinations which was cheap to visit in Malaysia, apart, from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Melaka.
The response from tourism industry players in Indonesia is positive, he told reporters after closing the programme here last night.
Zambry said Perak was focusing on Indonesia to promote the state’s tourism because of the close relations between Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, and also to take advantage of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand growth triangle (IMT-GT).
“I see that Indonesia has huge and the family ties that exist between the Malaysian and Indonesian people enable visitors from Indonesia to come to Malaysia,” he added.
The Perak tourism promotion mission in Medan was held on Monday, followed by Jakarta on Tuesday, during which the Perak Travel Mart & Business Session, involving 60 travel agents from Perak, was held.
Meanwhile, Nusa Tour & Travel director in Jakarta, only known as Rosmawati, welcomed the programme organised by the Perak government as it gave her the opportunity to know more about the state.
“I am only familiar with Penang, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur, and now I ll also promote Perak as a destination for the Indonesians to visit, as well as to get the authority to organise a trip to Perak,” she said.
Director of Travel Yuk.com, Harry Isnaeni said he was attracted two tourism products in Perak, namely Kellie’s Castle and Gua Tempurung.
“I’ll include these two products in my tour package,” he said.
