KUALA KANGSAR – The Balairung Seri in Istana Iskandariah again witnessed another historic event with the ‘Istiadat Tabal Pusaka’ held in conjunction with the enthronement of the Sultan of Perak XXXV, Sultan Nazrin Shah, here tonight.

The ‘Tabal Pusaka’ ceremony involved the handing over of 16 regalia items such as the sword ‘Pedang Cura Si Manja Kini’ and ‘Geliga Embun’ (Bezoar of Dew) as well as the ‘nobat’ (royal ceremonial music ensemble) to Sultan Nazrin Shah.

The ceremony began with 16 women bearing candles taking their position in the Balairung Seri (Throne Room) followed by a female ‘bentara’ (herald) bearing the items for the ‘Istiadat Merenjis’ (blessing ritual) to be placed on a special table, each on the right and left side of the throne.

This was followed by the ceremony to bring in the Instruments of Government led by the grandson of the late Sultan Azlan Shah, Yang Mulia Abdul Latif Datuk Seri Mohd Salleh, who is also a nephew of Sultan Nazrin Shah, followed by palace officials.

Subsequently, several bearers of the plumed lances and royal umbrellas took their respective place in the Balairung Seri.

All eyes were on Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim when the royal couple walked into the Balairung Seri accompanied by the sound of the nobat.

The ceremony proceeded with Abdul Latiff presenting the Pedang Cura Si Manja Kini to the Sultan who took it and placed it on his lap.

Raja Chik Muda Pawang Diraja, Raja Rosli Raja Mohamad then sought the Sultan’s consent to commence the ceremony for the cleansing of the articles of the state regalia and the royal ‘nobat’.

This was followed by the ‘Istiadat Merenjis Tepung Tawar’ initiated by Raja Rosli on the Sultan and Raja Permaisuri, followed by the state regalia.

The ‘Istiadat Merenjis Tepung Tawar’ concluded with the reciting of the ‘doa’ after which Raja Rosli took back the Pedang Cura Si Manja Kini from Sultan Nazrin Shah.

Sultan Nazrin Shah and Tuanku Zara then retreated to the Panca Persada (raised royal ceremonial dais) for the ceremonial bath, after which the royal couple proceeded to the ‘Bilik Kesenangan’ or Convenience Room in the palace.

The partaking of the rice ceremony in the Balairung Seri concluded the ‘Istiadat Tabal Pusaka’.

Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak later proceeded to the banquet hall for the banquet dinner. – BERNAMA
