IPOH – Police arrested a man and seized 7.47 kilogrammes of heroin worth RM374,000 in a raid conducted in the Desa Rishah
Indah housing area, here, on Thursday.
Perak police chief, Datuk Osman Salleh said the 43-year-old suspect was detained by a police team from the Ipoh district police headquarters at about 4.40pm.
“Police discovered 35 transparent plastic packets believed to contain heroin as well as some drug packaging apparatus,” he told a press conference at the state contingent police headquarters, today.
He said the rented two-storey terraced house had been used for drug packaging and trafficking activities in the past nine months.
“The initial investigation shows that the syndicate has been operating in several areas in the city, especially around Buntong,” he said.
Osman said from the investigation, the suspect was also believed to be a member of the “Devan Gang’.
“We have arrested 15 members of the gang and we are still hunting down for three more members.”
He said police seized a .38 revolver, 17 bullets and three bullet shells in the house.
Police also seized two Proton Waja cars reported missing last year and early this year, as well as two mobile phones and five masks, he said.
Osman said a Toyota Hilux pickup truck and a Yamaha LC 135 motorcycle belonging to the suspect were also seized.
He said the suspect had three previous criminal records involving robbery and causing injuries to people.
The suspect is being remanded for eight days until Thursday for investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 379 (A) of the Penal Code. – BERNAMA
