IPOH – Perak intends to expand the ‘Car Free Day’ campaign to other districts in the state to create a low-carbon towns, besides promoting a healthy lifestyle, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Without specifying in detail when it would be be implemented, Zambry said the proposal was made following encouraging response from many quarters whenever the ‘Ipoh Car Free Day’ was held.
“I have recommended to the local Municipal Council and District Council to introduce the campaign in their respective areas,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Ipoh Car Free Day’ in Jalan Raja Dihilir from 7 am to 10 am here Sunday.
Ipoh Car Free Day is held on the last Sunday of each month by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) since its introduction in October last year.
Meanwhile, MBI is organising a competition to design a logo for ‘Ipoh Car Free Day’ open to all Perakians with a grand prize of RM1,000 with an Ipad and three consolation prizes worth RM500.
Entries can be submitted to MBI’s Quality Management Division before May 20 and winners will be announced on May 29 during the coming Ipoh Car Free Day. -BERNAMA
