GEORGE TOWN: A heated argument erupted in the state assembly over the Taman Manggis land issue on Friday.
Jagdeep Singh (DAP-Datuk Keramat) caused the ire of Datuk Jahara Hamid (BN-Teluk Air Tawar) when he said Jahara incited a flash mob at the Taman Manggis site on Mar 25 this year.
Jahara shot back immediately and told Jagdeep to withdraw the remark to which Jagdeep refused.
Jagdeep was answering an oral question from R.S.N. Rayer (DAP-Seri Delima) who wanted to know if the state government was building a People’s Housing Project (PPR) on the Taman Manggis land during the question-and-answer session.
Tempers flared in the House when Jahara refused to sit down when told by Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, insisting that Jagdeep withdraw the remark.
When told to clarify his remarks by Law, Jagdeep said what Jahara said to a TV station on Mar 24 incited the flash mob.
Law then instructed both assemblymen to sit down immediately and urged other members not to be emotional.
The issue arose when Jagdeep accused Jahara of lying to the people as the PPR on the Taman Manggis site was rejected by an executive council meeting on Mar 28 2007 when Jahara was present.
“Why was this not revealed to the people when you were there when the decision was made,” asked Jagdeep. Jahara replied that she could not recall such a meeting.
