Penang Government Disappointed Over Rejection Of Sky Cab Project

in Latest

BATU KAWAN- The Penang state government is disappointed that the Penang Port Authority (LPPP) has rejected its Penang Sky Cab cable car project over fears that it will affect the operations of the port.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he was shocked and regretted the announcement of Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai yesterday informing of the rejection by LPPP.

“The rejection is illogical because the Penang Sky Cab which will be implemented by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), a government-linked company, is in the interest of all especially the people of Penang.

He told this to journalists after witnessing a Sale and Purchase Agreement Signing ceremony for homes at a project in Bandar Cassia, here, today.

Yesterday, Liow was reported to have said the LPPP had made the decision after the state government sought its views on the project.

Liow said the alignment of the proposed cable car project would affect the movements and berthings of ships in the waters close to the harbour and compliance by the conditions set by the Marine Department was necessary if the state government wanted to continue with the project.

The Penang Sky Cab was among the projects under the RM27 billion Penang Transportation Master Plan (PTMP), other than a 6.5 km undersea tunnel and three highways.

Asked if the state government would appeal, Lim said he would wait for the full reports from MRCB, LPPP and the Transport Ministry on the rejection of the proposal for the project.
