GEORGE TOWN: Police here busted a drug-processing laboratory and seized narcotics worth up to RM1mil in street value.
The drugs consisted of 6kg of ecstasy powder, 370 ecstasy pills, 170 Eramin 5 pills, various other powders believed to be drugs and small amounts of ganja and heroin.
A team from the Penang police contingent’s Narcotics CID raided a terrace house in Island Park here Tuesday night where they arrested three local men and two women, a Chinese national and a Vietnamese, all aged between 27 and 37.
State deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the 37-year-old man, believed to be the mastermind, then led the team to the laboratory at an apartment in Persiaran Midlands here.
A Proton Perdana was also impounded by police.
“Out of the five people arrested, only the 37-year-old suspect had a drug related record. The other four are clean.
“We are now checking on their money trails as no substantial amount of cash were found with them,” he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters in Penang Road here Wednesday.-The Star
