KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and PKNS FC took up the two slots
for the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals after the completion of Group C matches, last
PDRM edged Perak 2-1 at Stadium Hang Jebat, Melaka, to emerge as the group
champion with a total of 10 points while PKNS FC accompanied them after
collecting a total of eight points after a 1-1 draw against FA Cup champion,
Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at Stadium Shah Alam.
In the game in Melaka, PDRM took the lead 2-0 following goals scored by
Guilherme de Paula in the 21st minute and Muhd Fakhrul Aiman Sidid in the 58th
before Elias Fernandez reduced the deficit through a beautiful free-kick taken
in the 65th minute.
In Shah Alam, PKNS FC opened accounts with a goal by Palestinian import,
Matias Hadwa as early as in the third minute before national player, Safee Sali
equalised for the visitors in the 42nd minute.
Meanwhile, the other two teams that have confirmed their berths for the
quarter-finals were Selangor and Kelantan who had differing fortunes in the
Group B final matches.
Selangor, the defending champions, drew 1-1 with Kuala Lumpur at the
Selayang Municipal Council Stadium while Kelantan, who fielded their
second-liners, were beaten 0-2 by Pahang at Stadium Darul Makmur, Kuantan.
Six teams have already qualified to the quarter-finals earlier namely Kedah
and T-Team from Group A, Selangor and Kelantan (Group B) and Felda United and
Negeri Sembilan from Group D.
The Malaysia Cup quarter-finals are scheduled to be played on a home and
away format on Aug 27 and 28 and Sept 17 and 18.
