KOTA KINABALU – The Registry of Societies (ROS) has approved Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS)’s request to expand its party membership to the Peninsula and Sarawak.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the approval was effective on Nov 3.

“I knew it was important when the PBS president made the request to me asHome Minister as ROS is under my ministry.

“But PBS must be loyal to Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said to thunderous applause from party members at the opening of the 30th PBS Annual Delegates Conference here today.

The deputy prime minister also delivered the approval documents to PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister.

Earlier, when delivering his keynote address, Pairin said the application to open branches and recruit membership in the Peninsula and Sarawak was in line with the resolution made during the PBS Congress in 1995.

“More than 200,000 Sabahans are working in the Peninsula and I believe the move would be well received by people who want to join the struggle of PBS for all races,” he said.

Pairin said the move would open a new chapter for PBS to contribute more effectively to BN towards uniting Malaysians of various races in the country. – BERNAMA
