PETALING JAYA: PAS Youth has voiced its disapproval over Selena Gomez’s (pic) The Revival Tour concert to be held in Shah Alam on July 25.
Its dakwah committee chairman Hafez Sabri claimed that Gomez’s sexy appearance would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal.
Expressing regret that local authorities had approved for the concert to be held, he said:
“The presence of the singer, who is synonymous with sexy appearances, would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal, which is being celebrated in earnest, and further stokes the hedonistic culture among the country’s youths.”
Hafez also called on the state Islamic religious council to issue an official letter prohibiting Gomez’s concert.
The state government, he said, should have been more careful in approving the concert as there were entertainment guidelines issued by the Islamic Religious Department (Jakim) that needed to be followed.
“It is a priority and the responsibility of PAS Youth to ensure that there are no elements which can destroy the younger generation.
“We are committed to opposing such a concert,” he added.
The 24-year-old Gomez is slated to perform at the Melawati indoor stadium before heading to Singapore for another concert on July 27.
The singer cum actress, who first rose to stardom on Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, is famous for hits like Love You Like a Love Song, The Heart Wants What It Wants and Come & Get It, and has over 90 million followers on Instagram.
