GEORGE TOWN: The reluctance of PAS’ new leadership to instruct its representatives to quit their positions in the DAP-led Penang government is embarrassing, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pic).
The DAP secretary-general said the decision of four PAS representatives in the Penang City Council and Seberang Prai Municipal Council to maintain their positions had tarnished the Islamist party’s dignity.
“I wish to state that the state government has a close working relationship with PAS ordinary members in Penang.
“Unfortunately, the new PAS leadership and their supporters in Penang are unashamedly clinging on to the state government positions …
” … despite having accepted a resolution to sever ties with DAP that was directly or indirectly aimed at weakening the Penang Pakatan Rakyat state government led by me and comprising other DAP state executive councillors,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
The PAS Ulama Council had decided at the 61st muktamar to sever ties with DAP.
But it vowed to continue with the tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) with the Opposition pact.
Lim said PAS should instruct its representatives in the state government to resign because they were no longer part of Pakatan Rakyat following the party’s decision to sever ties with DAP. – BERNAMA
