PAS Runs Out Of Issues, Resorts To Personal Attacks Against BN Candidate

in Politics/Top News

TUMPAT – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has described PAS belittling the term of ustaz (religious teacher) for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mat Razi Mat Ail as an act of desperation as it has run out of issues to capitalise on.

However, the deputy prime minister said, the personal attack had no effect on the voters’ support for BN.

“I see there are no big issues here and I say that PAS’ target is the BN candidate because it knows our candidate is well accepted and excellent.

“One of its strategies is to attack the candidate’s personality. I myself in my speech did not touch on the opposition candidate. Never mind, perhaps they are afraid,” he told reporters at the house of the BN candidate, Mat Razi, in Kampung Simpangan, here, yesterday.

Also present were Muhyiddin’s wife Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman and BN’s Pengkalan Kubor state seat by-election director Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

Earlier, Muhyiddin performed Zohor prayers with a congregation of nearly 200 at Mukim Simpangan Hilir Mosque, here.

He also announced an allocation of RM500,000 to repair and renovate the mosque.

Muhyiddin, meanwhile, urged the voters in the area not to be influenced by PAS’ ridiculous claim that voting for the BN candidate in this Sept 25 by-election would not give them divine merit.

“This is a fallacious fatwa (edict)…who determines heaven or hell? How can they (PAS) know who goes to heaven or hell. BN’s struggle too does not stray from the Islamic struggle. Why does PAS use a fallacious fatwa and which goes against syariah (Islamic law)?

On the BN campaign in the by-election, Muhyiddin said he was apply that there were clear indications that the voters accepted the BN candidate.

“I’ve been informed that the voters’ reception is very encouraging and this is a good sign, as our decision to field Mat Razi as the BN candidate is apt.

I’ve been told that at the BN ceramah, the crowds could number over 1,000 or the least, 500 to 600, and this is good,” he said.

Muhyiddin, however, reminded the BN by-election machinery not to be over-confident and he hoped they would work harder to get more voters to their side.

“Just now, I met the Siamese community who expressed their full support to BN and this shows that we have been well accepted by the community even before this,” he said.

The Umno deputy president said this by-election was actually important for BN to gauge the voters’ acceptance of BN in the area.

On the frequent flooding in Kampung Simpangan, Muhyiddin said the problem should have been resolved by the PAS-led state government.

He said the federal government, however, would look into the situation if the state government was incapable of solving the problem.

The Pengkalan Kubor by-election is being held following the death of the area’s assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar from liver cancer on Aug 20.

In the by-election, Mat Razi will be facing PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim and an Independent, Izat Bukhray Ismail Bukhary.

In the 13th general election last year, Noor Zahidi defeated Saharun Ibrahim from PKR and Izat Bukhary (Independent) with a 1,736-vote majority.
