KOTA BHARU : Kota Baru PAS division nominated party vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as president in the June party poll.
The division chief Datuk Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah said the decision was taken in the division committee meeting last night where 11 of the 14 committee members agreed to the nomination.
He said Tuan Ibrahim was picked given his vast experience in the party and that he is a ulamak.
“The committee members felt that an ulamak is sill needed to lead the party,” he added.
Asked on the reason for nominating a candidate to contest against incumbent president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, he said he was confident that Hadi would want to continue to lead the party come June.
“I based my confidence on my observation and I am confident that Hadi would not defend his presidency.
“And all of us hope Hadi would be offered the post of he spiritual chief left behind by the late Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat,” he adeed.
Kota Baru is the first division to put up nomination for the upcoming party poll, followed by Shah Alam division in Selangor next week.
Wan Abdul Rahim also said the division did not nominate any candidates for other positions as nominating Tuan Ibrahim itself was already creating a controversy.
“Sufficient for us in the division to create a controversy by nominating someone for the presidency,” he added.
