KUALA LUMPUR – PAS has advised Tabung Haji (TH) depositors against withdrawing their funds following the crisis involving the financial institution and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Party information head Datuk Mahfuz Omar said withdrawing their deposits from TH would weaken the financial institution of the Muslims which had maintained its strength all this while.
Speaking at a media conference on the move to “Save Tabung Haji” which was set up under the party, Mahfuz said depositors must avoid from taking negative action which did not benefit them nor the financial institution.
However, Mahfuz, who is also chairman of the movement, said an Independent Commission must be set up to revamp the TH administration system to regain the fund’s credibility.
TH is facing controversy following the purchase of a plot of land measuring 0.66 hectare worth RM188.5 million at the financial centre, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) here, which was said to be a ‘bailout’ for the government’s strategic investment company, 1MDB.
However, following pressure from various parties, Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim last Saturday announced the TH decision to sell back the land.
In another development, Mahfuz said PAS had agreed with its ally, the DAP, to hand back the position of Opposition Leader to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. – BERNAMA
