RIO DE JANEIRO: It was a double joy for Malaysia as Pandelela Rinong and Nur Dhabitah Sabri qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s 10 platform individual event at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre.
Pandelela, who won a bronze medal in this event at the 2012 London Olympic Games, did well to finish sixth with 332.45 points while Dhabitah came in eighth with 325.85 in the 28-member field.
Only 18 divers make the cut for the semi-finals on Thursday at 9pm (Malaysian time). Top eight will then march into the final at 3am on Friday.
China showed that they have two good divers to beat when Si Yajie and Ren Qian made it a 1-2 sweep with impressive dives. Yajie scored 397.45 points while Ren Qian managed 385.80.
Pandelela is eyeing a second medal in Rio after winning a silver in the synchronised 10m platform with Cheong Jun Hoong.
