Pahang To Host 18th Asean Age Group Chess Championship 2017

KUANTAN – The 18th Asean Age Group Chess Championships 2017 to be hosted by Pahang in Kuantan from Nov 25 to Dec 4 is expected to attract 600 chess players from all over Asia.

Pahang Chess Association president (PCNP) Hamidah Abdul Hamid said Pahang were given the honour to host the championship after PCNP had successfully organised the Tengku Mahkota Cup Chess Championships in conjunction with Visit Pahang Year 2017 in April.

“The Asean Age Group Championships which is organised by the Asean Chess Academy together with PCNP will feature six age group categories, below eight, 10 years, 12 years, 14 years, 16 years and 18 years.

“Participants will receive certificates and winners medals (from 1st to 3rd),” she told Bernama when contacted, here today adding that participants will compete in Classic chess, Rapid chess and Blitz chess.

Hamidah said so far, 200 foreign participants from China, India and Singapore plus 250 local participants had already confirmed their participation.

The championships to be held at the Grand Darul Makmur Hotel would be graced by the acting Sultan of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah. – BERNAMA
