KUANTAN: Pahang soared to the top of the Super League chart for the first time this season after beating Perak 1-0 in the only Super League match played last night.
The winning goal was scored by Pahang’s Argentinean import Matias Conti in the 71st minute from the penalty spot at the Darul Makmur Stadium, here.
The win saw Pahang move five steps up to take top spot with 20 points after 10 matches.
Though both sides exhibited an attacking game there were no goals to show at the end of the first half.
It was only in the second half that the stalemate ended when the referee awarded the host team a penalty after an attempt by a Pahang player hit the hand of Perak defender, Muhammad Tuah Iskandar.
Conti, who was tasked with taking the spot kick, was calm and composed to beat Perak goalkeeper Muhammad Zamir Selamat, to the delight of the Pahang fans and supporters.
