KUALA LUMPUR: Defending champions, Pahang and Singapore representatives, Lions XII are through to the FA Cup semi-finals after beating their respective opponents in the second leg quarter-finals Wednesday night.
Pahang armed with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, drew 2-2 in the return match at the City Stadium, George Town, Penang.
Pahang started strongly with goals in the sixth and 10th minutes by their Nigerian striker Dickson Nwakaeme before Penang fought back with goals by Hilton Mauro Moreira in the 77th and 87th minute.
With the draw, the Elephants qualified on a 4-2 aggregate.
Pahang will be meeting neighbours Kelantan in the semi-final first leg early next month.
Kelantan, a two-time FA Cup holder, went into the semi-finals after winning on 4-1 aggregate against Klang Valley club Sime Darby FC in the quarter-finals.
At the Pasir Gudang Stadium in Johor Baharu, Lions XII blanked out Premier League squad, JDT II 2-0, to go through with a 4-0 aggregate.
In the match Wednesday night, Muhammad Khairul Nizam Mohammad Kamal was on target for the Lions XII in the 19th minute before Muhammad Nazrul Ahmad Nazari sealed the match with the second goal in the 64th minute.
Lions XII are scheduled to meet Terengganu in the semi-finals.
Terengganu marched to the semi-finals after overcoming Perak with a 3-1 aggregate in the quarter-finals.
The first leg semi-finals are scheduled on May 8 and 9 and the return matches will be held on May 15 and 16.
