KUANTAN – Pahang qualified for the Malaysia Cup final as they proved themselves to be a worthy squad especially with the 5-0 demolition of Kedah in their second leg semi-final encounter last night, said team manager, Datuk Che Nasir Salleh.
He said the players went all out in the first half and continued the momentum in the second half.
“We found team morale was at its best just before the match at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.
“We are happy as our strategy translated into a major win for Pahang,” he told Bernama here today.
Che Nasir added that he was extremely pleased as the team maintained a clean slate as their goal was not breached.
Meanwhile, Kedah coach Tan Cheng Hoe said he was satisfied with the performance of his charges in reaching the semi-final.
“The Kedah squad comprised mainly of young players who played well but this is football.
“The cause of our defeat is due to pressure when Pahang scored four goals in the first half and that was a major setback to my players,” he said.
Cheng Hoe said in the second half, Kedah players tried to step up the pressure but “Pahang’s strong defence denied us any goals”.
“We almost scored several times. If we had been successful, the results may not be the same,” he said. – BERNAMA
